The first phase of the evaluation: students' expectations

3. Motivation for studies

We have invited the students to make two personal options, one primordial and a secondary one, from a series of 8 potential criterions for motivations of their studies' choice.

a) I like to discover new items and to do experiments.
b) An engineer is respected and esteemed.
c) I like the exactitude and the rigour of the science.
d) I like to learn and to offer my knowledge for the sake of all.
e) There are serious studies that guarantee a job.
f) For me, the science is a piece of cake, it's the easiest.
g) The choice was influenced by the parents.
h) These studies allow me to find a well paid job.

Generally speaking, the curiosity and the security of the job are the most two frequent reasons and the most common to the different countries.

The average Belgian student is the one who declares to be the most animated by the curiosity and the by the social or team aspect of the profession. He is the one who declares that is the least influenced by the parents, by the necessity of the job security, by the prestige of his profession and by the salary.

The average Romanian student declares to be less animated by the curiosity to learn in what concern the choice of the studies. He declares to be more sensitive, than the mean, to the influence of the parents and to the salary.

The expectations of the average Portuguese student correspond to the mean of the students from the different countries. However, he declares to be more sensitive than the mean, to the prestige of the profession and less sensitive to the influence of the parents.

The expectations of the average French student correspond to the mean of the students from the different countries. However, he declares to be more sensitive than the mean, in what concern the salary.
